Le Petit Saint-Benoit: Reviews & Ratings
Lovely restaurant! Food was delish! My 11y.o daughter was curious about escargot so we ordered one, chef was genius served the dish in not “scary” way instead very pretty areange and my daughter love it! Good job! We also had onion soup, steak and beef burgundy. Delicious, we definitely come back
Solidly average and nothing special. Had the cod special and fries, and a coffee frappe. Wouldn’t come back for the food / drink alone but appreciated it being on a quiet side street in a busy neighborhood. Bathroom is a unique situation too… best avoided if you’re a standard American size (read large).
I love this place. It’s like your favorite little diner or homestyle family restaurant. I’ve always ordered extremely classic dishes. This visit was Onion soup and Beef Bourgignon with a half bottle of Bordeaux. Nicely attentive waitstaff and great crowd. Not too crowded on a Thursday evening, and you can make an online reservation. I was able to pay with a credit card, which surprised me based on reviews. I don’t know when they made that change.

Le Petit Saint-Benoit is a charming Parisian eatery tucked away at 4 Rue Saint-Benoit in the heart of the 6th arrondissement. This unassuming spot serves up classic French fare with a home-style touch that invites diners to savor tradition without pretension. The atmosphere is quietly intimate, perfect for those seeking a peaceful meal away from the bustling Paris streets.
What stands out most here is the thoughtful execution of timeless dishes. The onion soup arrives rich and comforting, while the beef bourguignon offers tender, slow-cooked flavors that speak to French culinary heritage. For adventurous palates, the escargot is presented in an inviting way, making it approachable even for young diners. Frog legs here earn their praise—lightly cooked and flavorful, paired expertly with a perfectly seared blue steak and classic frites.
Portions are mindful, catering well to smaller appetites although some sides, like the fries, may occasionally fall short of crispness. Bread is served simply, without butter, reinforcing the minimalist and unpretentious charm of the place. The attentive waitstaff and the quiet crowd on weekdays give the impression of a faithful local haunt, reminiscent of a beloved neighborhood diner but with a distinctly French soul.
The restaurant holds a subtle cultural weight, once a favorite of Serge Gainsbourg and Jean-Paul Sartre, adding a layer of Parisian history to your dining experience. Practical touches like the ability to make online reservations and pay by credit card make Le Petit Saint-Benoit welcoming for both locals and visitors. While the decor is minimalistic and the bathroom quite compact, the essence of the food and its genuine, warm atmosphere make it a memorable stop in Paris’ vibrant culinary scene.
